Preserve Delphi with Transformational Giving
Four tax-smart ways to support the Delphi Preservation Society
Delphi’s historic buildings, streetscapes and cultural heritage belong to all of us—but preserving them for the next generation takes private support. Your charitable giving doesn’t have to come only from your checking account. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to support the Delphi Preservation Society through an IRA, donor-advised fund, appreciated securities or your estate.
1. IRA — Qualified Charitable Distribution - Turn your IRA into a preservation tool.
-
If you are 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from an eligible IRA to the Delphi Preservation Society.
-
A QCD is made directly by the IRA trustee to the eligible charity. When all requirements are met, the distribution may be excluded from taxable income. QCDs can also be used to satisfy an eligible IRA owner’s required minimum distribution.
-
2026 QCD limit: $111,000 per individual.
-
Important: A QCD must go directly to an eligible charity. It cannot be made to a donor-advised fund.
Ask your IRA administrator about making a QCD directly to:

2. DAF — Donor-Advised Fund - Already have a charitable fund? Recommend DPS.
-
If you have a donor-advised fund through Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable or another sponsoring organization, you can recommend a grant to the Delphi Preservation Society.

-
DAF grants can support DPS’s preservation mission, including historic-building preservation, restoration, education and projects such as the historic Delphi Interurban Station.
-
If your DAF administrator offers electronic grant recommendations, you may be able to recommend your gift online
3. STOCK — Give appreciated securities - Your investment portfolio can help preserve Delphi.
-
If you own publicly traded stock, bonds or mutual funds that have appreciated in value, consider donating the securities directly rather than selling them first.
-
For qualifying long-term appreciated securities, a direct charitable gift may provide significant tax advantages, including potentially avoiding capital-gains tax on the appreciation while allowing a charitable deduction, subject to applicable rules and limitations.
-
Before selling appreciated securities, ask your financial advisor whether donating them directly to DPS may make sense for you.
4. LEGACY — Leave Delphi something lasting - Make preservation part of your legacy.
You can help preserve Delphi beyond your lifetime by considering the Delphi Preservation Society in your:
-
Will or living trust
-
IRA or retirement-account beneficiary designation
-
Life-insurance beneficiary designation
-
Other planned charitable gift
A legacy gift can help ensure that Delphi’s historic places and stories remain part of our community for generations to come.
