The Opera House Gallery of Contemporary Art celebrates the cultural and architectural heritage of the community. The room in which the gallery operates is itself a gem with a 14-foot high ornate pressed tin ceiling. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its third floor houses the famed Delphi Opera House where poet James Whitcomb Riley performed at least six times. The Delphi Preservation Society is restoring the building and the Opera House as a center for the performing arts. The gallery is owned and operated by the Delphi Preservation Society, and a portion of all sales will go to support the restoration effort.

The Opera House Gallery is located at 109 S. Washington Street on the east side of the Courthouse Square in Delphi. Opera House Gallery hours are from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Saturday hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Rena Brouwer  Slideshow

A free-spirited artist, Rena's involvement with the arts has been diverse over the past thirty years. She was a corporate visual merchandiser, taught watercolors at national conventions and has been involved in promoting the arts by serving on numerous state and national boards. Rena now lives in rural Indiana. Daily she paints watercolors inspired by wildlife, nature's bounty and Wildcat Creek. Her oneness with her surroundings is reflected in her images and the strokes of her brush reveal the light, texture and color of her milieu.
Terry Lacy has been working as an
artist doing plein-air landscapes
for over 40 years. His creative work
also includes hand made paper compositions of the American rural landscape and other natural subject matter. Terry is also a seasoned illustrator and designer working on editorial, exhibit and print communication projects.

Alan McConnell Slideshow

Alan McConnell is a landscape and nature photographer. He has traveled and photographed extensively through the western U.S. and elsewhere. The focus of his work is the color photographic print. Being also a science educator, Alan hopes to share his visions of the beautiful and interesting features that nature provides. "What comes to mind when you hear the wind blowing through a pine tree or smell the air after a cleansing rain? A well-known speaker once stated that a good teacher is a good storyteller. My intentions are to tell a story with my photographs."
The purpose of the Opera House Gallery is to showcase resident artists while celebrating the cultural and architectural heritage of the community. A portion of all gallery sales will support the restoration of the Delphi Opera House as a performing arts center for Delphi and the surrounding area.
