DPS Booth features "Roof" Beer and 5¢ candy Providing an old-fashioned flavor at its booth this year, the Delphi Preservation Society once again offered root beer from the keg for thirsty event goers. This year nickel candy was also offered with all proceeds going toward the "Roof for the Ruffing" project to put a new roof over the Delphi Opera House. Helping toward the cause, the Delphi Lions Club donated ice cream to DPS to make root beer floats, Johns Liquor Store provided the root beer at cost, and Wallman's Grocery Store provided space in its cooler and gallon jugs. |

Friday Night Program "Capturing the Soul of Indiana" Renown Indiana fine arts photographer John Bower discussed his work and presented a slideshow of his photographs during DPS' Friday night program at the Circuit Courtroom. John and his wife Lynn have visited every city and town in Indiana capturing images and stories of our overlooked cultural heritage. John has published five books that thematically present his black and white images carefully laid out by graphic artist wife Lynn. The Delphi Opera House was featured in a photo essay in Silent Workplace published in 2007. In progress is a book with a transportation theme. |

Eric Hicks Performs in the Opera House Saturday Night Local talent Eric Hicks performed in the historic Delphi Opera House on Saturday night of Old Settlers. More than 70 people climbed the steep steps to third-floor theater to listen to special songs written and performed by Eric. "Paddling Down the Old Deer Creek" captures images familiar to any who have canoed this scenic stream or walked along its banks. Of particular interest is Eric's reference in this song to James Whitcomb Riley, the famous Hoosier poet, who is known to have performed on the Delphi Opera House stage at least six times. Poignant scenes and relationships are captured in Eric's songs. "She Said" paints vignettes of a father's relationship with his daughter as she passes from childhood to motherhood. You can hear these songs and others by visiting Eric Hicks' page at Reverbnation at http://www.reverbnation.com/erichicks or his page on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/ericdhicks. A special thank you to Eric Hicks who donated his time and talent to help raise awareness and dollars for the Opera House Restoration Project, which will restore this historic gem as a performing arts center for Delphi and the surrounding community. And thank you to Karen Weatherwax and Bob Schueler for sharing their photographic talents! |

It wouldn't be Old Settlers without the Trolley driven by Brian Stirm with tours of historic Delphi narrated by Brian, Mark Smith, and others. Thanks to Brian and Mark for making this happen. |
