Saturday Work Crew Gets Down & Dirty…and Cleans Up!

Saturday morning, Delphi Preservation Society volunteers took down the wood shakPrismatic Glass-Tile Transome awning at 107 S. Washington (between Jenny's Grill and White Iris). Behind it they found leaded glass block from an earlier renovation (early 1900s). The sheet of prismatic glass is in very good shape and will likely be kept as part of the façade restoration.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, the firm of Sullivan and Fortner had removed the portion of the aluminum awning over the White Iris. These were the first steps in the façade restoration project that is underway this summer on the historic Assion-Ruffing City Hall building.

Meanwhile, more volunteers were inside painting the walls and cleaning the windows in the space formerly occupied by Curves while others swept the third floor Opera House, cleaned up the chairs there, and swept the stairs. Lots of people stopped by to check on the progress and get a quick tour of the Opera House on the third floor.

Thanks to everyone who helped and to those who stopped by with their well wishes. And a special thanks to Jenny Claiborne and Kevin Beck from Jenny's Grill who brought over ham sandwiches for the volunteers and to Mark Smith who donated bottled water!!
